Chaiwala! by@preets72is out tomorrow, and we'll be donating our commissions! Swipe & read on below to learn more:
In an effort to raise awareness and support for our Canadian LGBTQ+ and BIPOC authors and communities, Ampersand is donating release month commissions to a charity of the author's choosing, for one title by an LGBTQ+ or BIPOC author, each month.
In November, we'll be donating commissions made this month (October) for Chaiwala! by Priti Birla Maheshwari. This lovely picture book celebrates the pleasures of taking time for food, family, and tradition - even for a brief moment. Maheshwari has chosen@blackcreekcommunityfarmand@food4kidsontarioas the recipients of our commissions from the pub month of her book's release. Black Creek Community Farm is an urban agricultural centre that engages, educates, and empowers diverse communities through sustainable food. They work to serve and enrich the community through a thriving farm, healthy food, hands-on training and learning experiences as well as to inspire the next generation by providing leadership in food justice and supporting diverse natural and social ecosystems. Food4Kids is an organization dedicated to fighting child hunger in Ontario. With 5 affiliated chapters, they work to provide healthy food for kids from at-risk, low-income, or disadvantaged homes with limited or no food during weekend periods or during the summer months.
We are proud to take the lead from the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC creators we are lucky to work with.

Even More Chaiwala! Book Reviews:
“A delightful story about food and culture! Filled with beautiful artwork and a sensory story telling way that just makes me want to drink a cup of chai! A wonderful read that will have anyone wanting to visit the Chaiwala cart for some chai!”
— Ashley Dang
“The illustrations in this book are absolutely beautiful and will grab your attention (and those of your child's) right away. The story is adorable and I think that any parent who drinks chai could benefit from sharing this book with their children. On top of that, what a great introduction to Indian culture!.”
— Sara
“Chaiwala is a deeply sweet picture book that shows us a family stopping on a trip by train in Jaipur for some chai. The illustrations are cute with colours that really pop.”
— Elizabeth
